“The Ukrainian Nutcracker” is set in a village in Western Ukraine during a large Sviat Vechir (Christmas Eve) holiday gathering for family and friends. As is traditional during the Ukrainian Christmas holidays, koliadnyky, or carolers, arrive singing the famous Ukrainian carol, “Shchedryk”  or “Carol of the Bells”, and offer vinshuvannya, or spoken blessings, which bring good tidings to everyone for the coming year.

As the guest leave for the evening, the young Lara dreams of her Nutcracker Kozak and a battle with the evil Mouse King. Through the Karpaty Mountains they travel to a magical land where they are greeted by friends who are grateful for their defeat of the Mouse King, which brings freedom to their land. In honor of the heroic couple, Lara and the Kozak are entertained in a celebration of fantastic dances from around the world.

As the seasons change and the flowers bloom, spring comes upon Lara and the Kozak, and with it rebirth and new beginnings.  Lara and the Kozak are greeted in the new season with a celebratory dance, the infamous Hopak.

Thank you for your support and enjoy the show!
